Dry ice is a form of media blasting but has no residue of its own and is less abrasive than conventional media. Dry ice can be used where high pressure water or chemical use is out of the question. The dry ice abrades the dirt like other media blasting (sand, soda, glass beads etc.) but also takes advantage of the temperature differential forced on the surface to break the bond of the dirt with the surface to be cleaned. The dry ice is many times less abrasive and cleanup is only of the removed material. The dry ice simply sublimates.
